All Over The Road
Slowly but surely I am creating my web presence. I imagine it will take a lot of discipline to keep any blog up to date. And it probably takes a big ego to think that you have a something interesting to say every day. Well, let's hope I can find enough to keep talking - although talking to oneself is talent worth developing.

Encyclopedia of Life

Encyclopedia of Life
This is an ambitious project to give average world citizens the tool to help our scientists create a complete biodiversity database of all our planet's species. You can become involved by: contributing photos of species you have taken to their Flickr group, becoming a curator of a page (a feature coming later this year) or by making a financial donation. Hopefully, by getting the public involved in cataloging species, they will instill in us all a desire to protect them more ambitiously than we have been doing to date.

As a new feature they have teamed up with Microsoft Photosynth which allows the combination of digital images from varying angles to create a "synth". Synthiing allows images to be rotated and zoomed for a more immersive experience.

If nothing else, this site may become a museum piece to allow future generations to see the biodiverity which once existed on this planet before man's inhumanity wiped them all out! How they will curse us!

"Imagine an electronic page for each species of organism on Earth, available everywhere by single access on command." - Edward O. Wilson

The Encyclopedia of Life (EOL) is an ambitious project to organize and make available via the Internet virtually all information about life present on Earth. At its heart lies a series of Web sites—one for each of the approximately 1.8 million known species. Each site is constantly evolving and features dynamically synthesized content ranging from historical literature and biological descriptions to stunning images, videos and distribution maps. Join us as we explore the richness of Earth’s biodiversity!
